2010 NYSW Academy
Program Mission and Philosophy
Coaches the world over have been trying to predict which young players will be top players as they mature, as yet no one has a sure fire formula for identifying talent.
However, one thing coaches universally agree on is that the player who shows potential at a young age and is exposed to good teaching and coaching can achieve a superior level of play.
To foster our young talent, New York State West Youth Soccer Association’s coaching staff has created the Academy. The Academy is a venue to expose young players to focused training provided by nationally certified, veteran coaches. Players need not be in the ODP program. However, Olympic Development Program players and hopefuls are encouraged to participate in the Academy program.
Overview
The program will consist of technical and tactical training sessions, designed and directed by the NYS West Coaching staff. Goalkeepers are encouraged to register as they will be incorporated in the field activities.
Expanded Age Pool
Players born in 97,98, and 99 Welcome
The Academy program has traditionally been for current ODP players in our two youngest age groups, last year for the first time we extended participation to younger age groups. Given the success of last year’s program we will continue to extend the invite to an expanded group of younger players. This year we are inviting the current 97, 98 and 99 players that are in the ODP pools. The invitation is also for any new 97,98 and 99 born players. Your child need not be in the ODP pool to participate. We welcome new serious athletes to partake of the high quality coaching associated with the Olympic Development Program.
Training Locations
To minimize the inconvenience and cost of travel we have created five opportunities for players to participate.
Rochester: Veterans Memorial Park Fields, Town Hall, Penfield
Buffalo: DeMatteo Fields, Tonawanda
Elmira: Eldridge Park
Syracuse: CNY Family Sports Centre, Baldwinsville
Olean: St. Bonaventure University
The same curriculum is taught at each site by highly-qualified, veterans coaches who have the players learning and development as a priority.
