Golden Again!

Rochester's Wambach Scores in OT as U.S. Wins Gold

Rochester native Abby Wambach celebrates after her 112th minute goal won the U.S. a gold medal.
Kristine Lilly sent a left-footed inswinging corner kick to the back post and Rochester native Abby Wambach headed back to the near post and into the net off the head of a Brazilian defender on the goal line as the U.S. topped Brazil to win the gold medal today.

To open the scoring sheet Lindsay Tarpley cracked a 23-yard shot inside the left post after Brandi Chastain won the ball in midfield and played it to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead before halftime, but Brazil came back in the second half with a goal by Prentina. Brazil also hit Briana Scurry's right post twice during the half. Recap the action at ussoccer.com (link below).

The team also annouced a 10-game "Fan Celebration Tour" that will kick off on Sept. 25 at Frontier Field in Rochester.
