TC United and Lansing SC to Host NYSWYSA College Recruiting Seminar
Open to the Public

TC United and Lansing SC are teaming up to host a college recruiting seminar on Tuesday, May 21st at Ithaca High School (1401 North Cayuga St., Ithaca, NY).  The seminar will run from 7-9pm and take place in the Activities Room at the high school.

Choosing the right college is one of the most important decisions high school students and their families will have to make.  The higher education landscape, locally, regionally and nationally is filled with all kinds of options and opportunities.  Knowing where to look and how to be noticed can be an integral part of the process in finding the right campus to continue your academic and athletic careers.  The clock is ticking and high school student-athletes are making college decisions earlier and earlier.   There is an opportunity out there waiting for you if you are proactive, and know how to find it.

NYSWYSA Technical Director Dean Foti will lead the seminar that will delve into the college recruiting process.  New York State has a wide variety of college options for anyone wishing to make playing soccer a part of their college experience.  The choices run the entire spectrum and include numerous junior colleges (both Division I and Division III), NAIA universities and Division I, II and III colleges and universities.  Come learn the basic nuts and bolts of the recruiting process as well as the nuances in how to go about selecting the college option that is best for you.

The seminar is aimed primarily at boys and girls soccer players in grades 8 - 11 and their parents.  Youth coaches, high school seniors, guidance counselors and player siblings are also encouraged to attend as well.  TC United and Lansing SC players will be admitted to the seminar for free provided they RSVP to: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1i8au4FTDbJR_bzZ3EN7NAYlb6jq06QkLzfEIy_GMi0M/viewform (names will then be placed on a gate list for check-in at the door, on the day of the event).   The general public is also welcome and encouraged to attend.  General public admission for the seminar is $10 per person via online registration.  To register online please click here.   Online registration will close on Monday, May 20th at 11pm.

Topics to be covered include:

-How do athletics fit in to the big picture (Academics/Athletics)?

-College recruiting time lines – what should you be doing and when.

-Important factors to consider when choosing a college.
-Finding the college that’s right for you.
-How to make college coaches aware of whom you are.
-Creating a soccer bio/resume/video.
-Scholarships and Financial Aid.

-NCAA recruiting rules/regulations and the NCAA Eligibility Center.

-What is a typical day for a college student-athlete?

Each seminar will conclude with a question and answer period.  Every attempt will be made to assemble a panel made up of various area college coaches.  They will make up a panel that will respond to your questions and provide first-hand information.
