New US Youth Soccer ODP Structure Announced for 2019/20 Implementation

US Youth Soccer’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) will implement several program enhancements starting in the 2019/20 seasonal year.  Enhancements will standardize ODP across the country (East Region, Midwest Region, South Region and West Region) and will include a scouting network that will align with US Soccer, MLS and NWSL to assist in providing competitive environments for top players.  In 2019/20 the 12U age group has been added and state teams in all age groups (12U through 17U) will now compete respectively for an ODP Regional Championships each June.  Champions from each of the four regions will then progress to the ODP National Championships which will be played in July alongside the USYS National Championship Series Finals (and will take place at the same site on the same date).  The ODP scouting network will identify top players for ODP Regional Pools/Teams and an ODP National Pool/Team at the ODP Regional Championships (IE. the four regional ODP Tournaments), the ODP National Championships, Regional ODP Identification Camps and the ODP Inter-Regional competitions (held in November for girls in Boca Raton, FL and in December for the boys at IMG Academy, Bradenton, FL).   A USYS ODP National Training Camp will be held in late January, 2020 in Tampa, FL for the top boys and girls players scouted throughout the ODP cycle. Players will be selected to USYS ODP National Teams that will travel abroad to play international competition in the spring 2020 (the costs of which, are underwritten by USYS).

NYW ODP will align its programming accordingly in 2019/20, integrating a full 12U program that mirrors the traditional NYW 13-17U ODP programming (IE. indoor pool training, outdoor pool training and ODP Tournament Team selection) and converting its previous 12U program to an 11U Pre-ODP Program (where there are no tryouts and programs are held in Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo and Binghamton districts).  NYW will now send one team per age group (12U-17U) to compete for a championship in the East Region ODP Tournament. The East Region ODP Tournament will now be a one weekend tournament where state teams within the East Region will compete in group play on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday – June 5-7, 2020. Group winners will advance to the semifinals on Monday, June 8th, with winners advancing to the regional championship game on Tuesday, June 9th.  Regional champions in the 13U-17U age groups (excluding 12U’s) would then advance to the ODP National Championships in Overland Park, KS in mid-July, 2020.
