Doug May 3 v 3 Festival Returns for Second Year
After receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews from its debut at the 2006 NYSWYSA Coaches’ Workshop, the Doug May 3v3 Festival will return for its second season at this year’s Coaches’ Workshop, Nov. 17 at Total Sports Experience in Rochester.
“We were quite pleased at the response to the tournament last year, and are thrilled to be able to bring it back to the Coaches’ Workshop in 2007,” says Sandy Ostebo, NYSWYSA Director of Public Affairs. “Our hope in starting this event was to make it an annual highlight of the Coaches’ Workshop weekend, and the players and coaches have really taken to it. It should be a fun event for all involved, and is a great way to honor a man who was committed to creating opportunities for the youth players in this region.”
Named in memory of the late Doug May, a longtime NY West area coach for travel teams, ODP, high schools and colleges, and a 2005 NYW Hall of Fame inductee, the free tournament for U10 players will feature separate boys’ and girls’ divisions, with co-ed teams placed into the boys’ division.
While there is no entry fee, there is a limit to the number of teams that can participate, so entries will be accepted on a “first come, first served” basis. Each team will play at least three matches to small goals with no goalkeepers. The maximum roster size is five.
Each team’s players must be properly registered/insured through the NYW RosterPro registration program, and accompanied by a registered/insured adult. All players will receive a participation award.
Plan now for this fun event! Entries must be made on an official NYW roster by selecting the “Doug May 3v3 League” and sending the roster by e-mail to Sandy Ostebo at sandyostebonyw@stny.rr.com. For answers to questions, contact Sandy either via e-mail, or by phone at 607-368-8456.

Rules
1. Players: Rosters are limited to five U10 players. Three field players and no keepers will be on the field during play. Substitutions can be made on the fly with players entering in their own half.

2. Ball: A size four ball will be provided.

3. Equipment: Players must wear shinguards and the same color jerseys.

4. Game duration: Each match will be 15 minutes — running time, with no time-outs. Teams must be by the field 10 minutes before the scheduled start of the match and ready to start at the scheduled starting time. At the conclusion of all play, players will be presented with participation awards and have their pictures taken.

5. The first team listed for each match on the schedule will kick-off from center field. Kick-offs may be taken in any direction and are indirect. A goal may be scored only from a touch within a team’s offensive half of the field. There will be no off-sides or corner kicks or penalty kicks. Balls over the sideline will be played in on the ground by the feet. Balls hitting boards behind goal will be put back in play by a goal kick. Following a goal, the defending team restarts with a goal kick. Goal kicks are taken from anywhere within three yards of the goal. All restarts are indirect, and on restarts defending players must be at least three yards away. No free kicks are to be taken closer than five yards from the goal area.
