Ray Tam is currently a sophomore at Rochester Institute of Technology, where he is a member of the Honors Program in the Electrical Engineering program. He is interested in becoming a high-school teacher, and as such, tutors other student — something he has done since high school. In high school, he played on the 2005 Pittsford Mendon Varsity soccer team that shared the NYS Class A Co-Championship, and also ran track and field, specializing in the hurdles and triple jump.
Ray started officiating in 2002, following in the footsteps of his father, a State Referee. Ray’s development has been aided by his incredible fitness, speed, and ability to adapt his style to the level of the game. He has attended the State Cup Tournament for three years, and in 2007 was selected to attend the ODP Tournament in New Jersey. His strong performance at that tournament earned him an invitation to the ODP finals in Delaware — a great honor for a first-year participant. At 18 years of age he has already served as the referee in several U19 Boys’ games, and has worked as an Assistant Referee up to the Men’s Premier level. In 2007, Ray was selected as an Assistant Referee for the Rochester & District Soccer League’s Cup Finals held at Paetec Park. He has already been noticed by several National Assessors, and as such, his future as a referee is limited only by how far he wants to pursue his career.
