Also known to us as "Rom,” Roman Figler has been with the Grand Island Program for 10 years. This year Rom will be the head coach for his older son’s team (U16) and the assistant coach for his younger son’s team (U 11).

 

Rom has also served for the past eight years as the U6 coordinator for our House program, working as a scheduler for the over 180 kids in the program, which meet four times per week. He recruits our older players to come and help, organizes all the drills and provides the structure for every practice. This age group is the foundation of any club’s program. We broke a record this year for our House program with over 1,000 registered players on Grand Island, and a lot of credit goes to Rom’s U6 program!

 

Additionally, Rom was the assistant coach/manager for the Grand Island U16 Girls’ team this past year that participated in the New York State Cup. He is also on the Grand Island Soccer Club Board of Directors and attends all clinics and meetings held throughout the year. He is EVERYWHERE!

 

Last but not least, Rom is always the first one to volunteer for any situation that comes up. When Grand Island had their tryouts for this year’s travel teams, Rom was there at 8 a.m. marking fields and grids, and sorting practice jerseys. He stayed the entire day, which ended at 3 p.m., to help wherever he could.
