Last year, NYW received a notice from USSF staff attorney Gregory Fike, informing us that it had been brought to his attention that several NYW-sanctioned matches were being played with non-registered referees.

Allegedly, some NYW members are not complying with USSF policy 531.8, which stipulates that certified referees must be used at all levels of play. The NYSWYSA has gone on record stating that it will make every effort to be in compliance, and starting with the 2007 AGM, the organization has actively brought this matter to the attention of its membership and promoted the various referee courses being offered (click here to view courses offered in January).

 

Curt Hamlin, the State Referee Administrator and Bill Campbell, the Youth State Referee Administrator, are working diligently with NY West to help create more certification opportunities for referees.
