About the 19U ODP Program
The New York West Olympic Development Program will continue its popular college prep training program for boys and girls players in the 19U age group (i.e. 2005 and 2006 born players for the 2023/24 season). Traditional ODP at the state and regional level tops out at the 17U age group nationwide. NYW independently made the decision to expand its programming and continue to include this 19U training program to serve the serious and committed player looking for high level training to supplement their club and/or high school training. The program is open to all age-eligible players and will provide competitive training for players who have an eye toward playing soccer in college. While there are no tryouts to gain entry into the program, we are seeking players with a strong desire for self-improvement and players who are looking for the edge in training that will help them move up in the player pecking order.
The 19U training program will run parallel to traditional NYW ODP training. For 2023/24 there will be five indoor training dates. Each indoor training date will include a 90-minute training session, followed by a 90-minute break (i.e. 45 minutes for lunch, followed by a 45-minute lecture presented by our NYW ODP Coaching Staff) and then a second 90-minute training session (i.e. there are two training sessions on each training date). The outdoor training phase will consist of training and games including scrimmages against college teams. The initial program registration fee covers indoor training costs only and when the 2024 outdoor phase (training and games) schedule is completed, we will assess a reasonable additional fee to cover the spring outdoor training segment of the program.
Training sessions will focus on technical training, small sided games and the accompanying attacking and defending tactical implications. There will also be scrimmaging with larger numbers with attention paid to larger scale tactics. The training sessions will be competitive and demanding with a specific emphasis on holding players to the high standard needed IN TRAINING that produces high level execution IN GAMES.
The NYW ODP Coaching Staff will work through a number of planned lecture topics on each indoor training date. Topics include but are not limited to: Proper Training Habits, Tactics, Nutrition, College Recruiting, and Mental Training for Peak Performance.
The 19U training sessions are led by licensed coaches who are on the NYW ODP Coaching Staff:
- The coach for the 19U Girls will be Kent Brown (Webster Schroeder High School).
- The coach for the 19U Boys will be Jim Harrigan (NYSWYSA Coaching Education Staff, ODP East Region Staff Coach).
Registration Fees
The $295 registration fee covers program tuition for all indoor training sessions only. When the 2024 outdoor phase (training and games) schedule is completed, we will assess a reasonable additional fee to cover the spring outdoor training segment of the program.
There is no additional cost for goalkeepers attending any of the goalkeeper training sessions. While the goalkeeper sessions are optional, we encourage 19U goalkeepers to take advantage of this additional specialized training provided by our outstanding goalkeeper coaching staff.

Training Kits: Required ODP training kits are to be ordered online. Approximate cost of the Nike kit is $65 (includes jersey, short, and socks). Kits should be ordered in a timely fashion to ensure delivery prior to your first training session. Kits ordered closer to the start of the program may inevitably be delivered after the first training session.
PLEASE NOTE: We are moving to the new version of the same kit that we have had for the last four years (IE. same color scheme, same exact shorts and socks, but we will move to the newest edition of the same Nike jersey). The end of the four year cycle for our current jersey has come to a close and Nike has created a new edition of the same jersey. We recommend purchasing this new jersey as it is noticeably different than the old one. Moving forward and consistent with our past practices, we plan to stay with this jersey for its production shelf life so should families have the desire to utilize the jersey for more than one season, they will have that option..
